Peer Ministry Team
We are here to serve you in many ways. Have questions about the Catholic faith? Need a friend when you're going through a hard time? Need a dance party? We can do that!
To contact a peer minister, see our peer ministry team roster.
Men’s and Women’s Small Groups
St.Thérèse Women’s Groups
Girls’ night out doesn’t have to be at the movies or the mall. One of the best ways to grow closer to God is to experience your faith with other female students who have the same questions, feelings, and journeys. Each semester we form small groups for genuine prayer, Bible study, faith sharing, and fun. Sign up at the beginning of the semester or ask a peer minister how to get in touch with group leaders.
St. John Men’s Groups
Our chivalrous gents gather in small groups on a regular basis with a mission to grow spiritually through prayer, fellowship, and service. In the spring we take a weekend retreat to escape campus and refocus our lives. Pay attention to the lobby chalkboard, bulletin, and Sunday announcements so you don’t miss this chance, or talk to any of the peer ministers to get in contact with a group leader.
Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or beginning player, Newman has a place for you on our intramural squad. Regular teams include co-ed, men’s, and women’s teams in flag football, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and softball, just to name a few.
St. Vincent de Paul Outreach Program
Service that fits your schedule
We coordinate with a variety of outreach programs all over Tulsa to bring Christlike service to those most in need. Students volunteer in ways that fit their schedule; many visit their sites weekly. Some help coach sports, others tutor adults and children, and still others serve in other ways suited to their interests and talents. For those who can't quite commit to a weekly schedule, our program also schedules big group outreach days, such as sorting food at the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma or building fences at the annual Clear Creek Abbey Work Day.
Alternative Winter and Spring Breaks
During academic breaks students offer up their time and energy to serve a particular group of people in need. In 2012, we served folks in Idabel, Oklahoma, and Joplin, Missouri. These trips provide the opportunity to see not only social justice at work but also faith in action.
Dances and Parties
Good Clean Fun, and Proud of It
Newman is known for impromptu fun and games, but we also like to plan a few special events in advance. Our headline parties celebrate the big holidays and provide a safe and sublime outlet for a good time. Every year we have a Halloween Party, Fall Dance, Thanksgiving Feast and Talent Show, Christmas Dinner and Date Auction, Valentine's Day Dinner, Spring Dance, End of the Year Banquet, and Film Festival.
